Youth4CAN was well-represented at the Nippon Foundation Spogomi World Cup 2025 Namibia Qualifiers event. SpoGomi is derived from the Japanese word “Sport Gomihiroi,” which translates to “picking up trash”. According to the New Era Newspaper, the project, owned by the Japanese Nippon Foundation, reached out to Namibia to widen its participation in the sport.
The trash picking competition uses sports to raise awareness on waste pollution by involving citizens in cities’ clean-up campaigns, with a great focus on youth participation. The competition was open for citizens from the ages of 15 and up, consisting of teams of three members each.
Our Youth4CAN’s regional coordinators, Thomas Thomas (Oshikoto) and Jacob Amakali (Erongo), participated in the competition, registering as the Dr. Sam Nujoma team in honour of his legacy and contribution to the Namibian Nation. The Dr. Sam Nujoma team won second place in the competition, winning a trip to Japan.
Congratulations to Team Dr. Sam Nujoma, we are proud of you.
