Youth4CAN joins the rest of the Namibian nation in mourning the country’s first president H.E. Dr Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma. The Founding Father of the Namibian Nation died on 8 February 2025 at 95 years old. We also join the nations in remembering and embracing his legacy and contribution to the people of Namibia from his long walk to Freedom and to leading the nation from 1990 to 2005. He will be remembered for his revolutionary leadership.
During this moment, we would like to recognise him for supporting the work of conserving, managing and protecting natural resources hence leading Namibia to sign as a party to the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity in 1992 and leading the country to its first United Nations Framework Convention to Combat Climate Change’s Conference of Parties in 1995 in Berlin, Germany. It was during his tenure that Namibia joined other nations worldwide to save the planet, limit greenhouse gaseous emissions, prevent and restore degraded land and promote community conservation efforts. To us, He is our Climate Action Champion and a trailblazer for “Taking Action”.
